You Wanted A Formula #2

Remember, these aren't formulas. But people want them and ask for them. So this is my disclaimer to make myself feel better about giving you stuff to copy out of context. :) Best of luck.

Growth.

How the heck do you define it? As in YOU, the reader, the human leading something, the pastor, the boss? How have YOU defined growth so you can actually achieve it, multiply it, teach it, and celebrate it in and through others?

Most would say attendance. Until it doesn’t happen then we say things “But we’re healthy.” Then growth is depth. Until those “deep” people stop giving and you say “But we’re reaching the unchurched.” Until they stop coming and you say “We do a really cool community outreach initiative here.”

But I might argue the only growth that happened was in the area of your vocabulary and creativity to redefine failure or aimless wandering.

So what if you could just DEFINE (however you like) what growth is? Even if you just shoot in the dark and then see what you hit. Commit to it, go win at it, then adjust AFTER you make progress, not just because it got too hard.

Consider my list below as a sort of shot in the dark. If you have not specifically defined “growth” in your church (or even your business), let me at least throw up a target to think about. We can discuss why these are the way they are too. You can ask questions. Then you need to go hit that target!

The following are just 5 of many metrics you can track. These typically are some of the big ones regarding numerical engagement.

Attendance, kids, youth, groups/discipleship, giving. Let’s go.
