Provocative title today. Maybe triggering. But here's my logic and how to scale in an orderly and predictable fashion without self-sabotage.
Small groups (or any form of what you call “community” in a systematized or structured way) are important…
At. Some. Point.
But I’d argue they sabotage your goal and intent when pushed too hard too early.
When you launch a new campus you don’t simply copy and past everything from the main location over to the new one. There’s a sequence to the build out. This sequence, while custom for each church, is where I think the vast majority shoot themselves in the foot. They don’t see this as a progression or a build but a simple stamp-and-hope endeavor.
And groups is a key offender since so many consider them absolutely ‘essential’ to growth and/or health. Why? The people on your team have a life.
